Hello! I’m Sushil Emerick.

I tell stories about the cycles that shape us.

I’ve always turned to stories to understand life — first as a child reading and writing fairy tales, then as an adult reading novel after novel. I followed my love of story into a career as a journalist and have worked as a stringer for The New York Times and as a staff multimedia reporter for The Wall Street Journal. I have also been an editor and audience manager for a personal finance website and a tech publication. Through all these experiences, I honed my observation, reporting, writing, research, and listening skills, helping me learn about others and tell their stories, through the lens of daily news, luxury real estate, personal finance, and technology. I’ve also had the opportunity to co-author a middle-grade children’s fiction book, and I’m working on more fiction now.

I spent nine years caring for my mother, who passed away from dementia in 2023. After years of caregiving and experiencing a variety of loss, I came to see that life moves in phases, and I’m continuing to learn how to live in the rhythm of constant endings and beginnings. Along the way, storytelling has evolved from something I do to how I find meaning.

Today my work lives where storytelling meets transformation. I write about how we grow, how we grieve, and how we begin again — and how creativity and immersion in nature can guide us home to ourselves.

Soon, I’ll be launching Lake House Letters, a newsletter following the inner seasons. Written from my wonderful home on a lake, I’ll explore the cycles and seasons of growth through personal stories and reflective practices. It’s specifically intended for those navigating loss, seeking renewal, or wanting to understand themselves more deeply and fully.

My intention is to see beauty in becoming, and to help others do the same.
